Dear Owen,

Thank you so much for sending me your own article the paper, "Subjective Realism and Phenomenal Consciousness," and the paper on the block world by Stuckey, Silberstein, and Cifone. This is great food for thought! In response to your posting below, as provocative as the block world theory is, my own orientation is not based on the Wheeler-Dewitt equation, but on 2500 years of Buddhist contemplative inquiry in dialogue with 2500 years of Western scientific & philosophical inquiry. If the BW is true, I'm not as certain as you that it undermines every theory  that involves the reality of time. If it did, I doubt that any physicist would take it seriously. Moreover, although it may well be incompatible with the Theravada (or standard?) view of karmic causation and rebirth, I believe a close study of the Dzogchen (Great Perfection) view shows that the BW may well be compatible with Vajrayana Buddhism. Clearly, further study is needed.

Cheers,

Alan
